It has been reported that doctors, paramedics and other medical workers are subjected to thousands of physical and verbal abuse cases throughout the country every weekend.

UK hospitals and those working for ambulance services suffer bites, bruises and fractures as they try to treat patients. Others have been diagnosed with stress due to the trauma of the events.

15% of NHS staff experience incidents of violence every year. The cause of over 50% of these incidents has been attributed to the consumption of alcohol and drug misuse. Also the ever increasing issue of legal highs has become a major concern for medical staff at hospitals across the country.

Measures need to be put in place to drive down these figures with many hospitals requiring a police presence, especially on weekends. CCTV systems have been installed and security officers hired to provide manned guarding for these premises.
