Q&A with Matthew Howard

What is your job title?

Sales Manager

How many years have you worked in the FM industry?

12 years

How many years have you worked at Cordant?

12 years

Where did you spend your time on World FM Day?

Shop Direct Group's Distribution Centre in Shaw

What sort of tasks did you complete?

At the site in Shaw I spent the majority of my time in the CCTV control room learning about the different tasks each officer completes. I also conducted patrols with the officers and tannoy tests

What was the hardest part of your experience?

Knowledge of the systems and site lay out were the most challenging. The officers knowledge was second to none. They knew the site inside out, where its vulnerabilities where and how to tackle them. I was really impressed.

What did you learn?

The end to end process of stock management and dispatch and the associated security risks at a fulfillment centre.

What surprised you?

The size of the operation and what challenges come with that is what surprised me the most. Our security teams are coordinated to control every aspect of the site and work very efficiently when doing so

What was most enjoyable?

Meeting the team and understanding their day to day duties and the complexities of the role that during a brief visit you do not appreciate. This time I could really understand the detail of each aspect of the security function.

Would you do it again if given the chance?

Yes it was definitely a worthwhile experience
